Group Guided Meditation at L’Gharix Temple Retreat

“Quiet the mind, and the soul will speak.” ~ Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati

As a Hypnotherapist I ask my clients to close their eyes and with guided imagery I take them on a journey to find the healing, inner strength, creativity, higher wisdom and answers they have within. Guided imagery is a simple, yet powerful, self-awareness tool

I am the curator of an ancient cave at L’Gharix my home in Xaghra, Gozo. Among the different healing modalities and therapies I offer in the cave one of my favourites is the Group Guided Meditation as it is a wonderful healing experience. I have personally experienced some of the many emotional and health related benefits to using guided imagery during a group meditation session.

Benefits of Guided Meditation

The cave at L’Gharix is located within a hundred metres of the Ġgantija Temples – a UNESCO world heritage site that’s over 7,500 years old – older than Stonehenge and the pyramids of Egypt. The area is filled with wonderful healing energy and is the perfect place for self-reflection and soul-connection.

Some of the benefits of a group meditation in the cave are:

1) As the cave is underground it connects you to the earth and grounds you

2) You feel linked to a group of like-minded souls

3) The energy from the group of people in meditation heightens the energy vibration in the cave

4) As the energy vibration is lifted it reduces fatigue and exhaustion

5) It can also alleviate feelings of sadness and anxiety

6) The meditation journey with a group is powerful and helps you feel supported

7) You are left feeling energized

8) You will re-connect with your inner self and gain insights and answers that help you move forward

How Does a Guided Meditation Work?

A guided meditation starts by using your breath to calm and ground you to the safe space you find yourself in. You are then guided to relax both your body and your mind, which brings you into a deep meditative state. By listening to the narrated words you are taken on a journey in your mind to reach a specific goal or outcome.

In your deeply relaxed state your brain is not able to differentiate between an imagined event and a real one, and what you experience in a guided meditation is like having a real experience. Your subconscious creates images which take your thoughts away from the worry, stress, anxiety and pain and leads you to the outcome or healing you need.

Meditation involves focusing the mind on passive observation or on making positive changes depending on what it is you need during the session. The subconscious will allow the mind to bring you into a state of health and healing when you allow the process.

Will a Guided Meditation Work for Me?

Dozens of forms of meditation have been developed and there is a variation to suit most people regardless their personality and lifestyle. There is no “right way” to meditate as each person has their own experience and they can explore the different approaches until they find the one that works for them.

In the cave I do the meditation as a journey using guided imagery and most people find this technique beneficial and they find what they are looking for. You do not need to practice any particular religion or have any beliefs for guided meditation to work. Nor do you need to be particularly creative or imaginative. And many people who have found they are unable to meditate and relax on their own, find a guided meditation particularly helpful to achieve this state of relaxation and calm.

What are the Benefits of Guided Imagery?

Imagery has a positive effect on heart rate, blood pressure, breathing and oxygen rates, brain waves, temperature, and hormone balance. Guided imagery can help relieve symptoms caused or made worse by stress, such as chest pain (angina), high blood pressure, high blood glucose, headaches and digestive and breathing problems. It can also assist with difficulty sleeping, and improve emotional wellness.

Is Guided Imagery Safe?

Guided imagery is safe. No known risks are associated with it. Guided imagery is most effective when the person teaching it has training in guided imagery techniques.
